Product Review: Macro Raw Food Bars

These are a fairly new product to come into Woolworths stores under the Macro Wholefoods Market brand.

They come in 2 flavours - Chocolate, and Chocolate & Mint.
Ingredients: Dates, Almonds, Cashews, Walnuts, Cocoa Liquor, Cocoa Powder (and Peppermint oil in the Mint flavour).

I LOVE these bars.
What I love about them:
  • They taste absolutely DIVINE! (both flavours!)
  • They are inexpensive.
  • They are a great size for a snack/treat.
  • Easy to transport in kids lunchbox or for keeping in the work snack drawer ;-)
  • Contains minimal ingredients & no added nasties (no sugar, preservatives, artificial colours or flavours).
  • A money back guarantee is offered too - not that you'll need it!

There is only one downfall that I need to state - occasionally I get a bar that has a really hard bit in it. It must be part of the date pits, because its so hard that I can't even bite through it, it feels like I have bitten a piece of rock. It is only a tiny piece though so I just remove it.

I make sure that I always have at least one in the cupboard for when a chocolate craving hits. I always beat my chocolate cravings with date products & this is great way of doing just that!
Seriously - it looks like a chocolate bar:

Available at Woolworths, Safeway, Food for Less and Thomas Dux Grocer stores - I definitely recommend adding these to your shopping list!

  1. I swear I'm not trying to a annoying- just sharing.. but I really disliked these bars. I was super excited to see an affordable bar with safe ingredients at the supermarket but I was disappointed :(

You could taste the artificial chocolate flavour and I kept hitting bits of hard pit? or something. Plus they were oddly dry for a bar that contains dried fruit, not sure how they managed that.

Have you tried emma and toms bars? I much prefer them- but perhaps it's just personal preference?...

    2. Oh but yes I do agree re the hard bits - must be the pit - I keep trying to figure out what it is with no answers yet!!! But I prob only get one every 4 bars so I can cope with that lol

    3. How funny! We have such similar yet slightly different tastes. Thank you for not taking it the wrong way- I just wanted to talk. I agree they would be much improved with no pit bits :)

    4. I have long enjoyed the Emma and Toms bars and still do occasionally, except I find the new banana flavour gross. But these Macro bars are an absolute godsend. I think they’re the tastiest snack bars I’ve EVER eaten, and so much healthier! I’m laying right off sugary snacks so these are just the ticket, especially straight from the fridge. My son loves them too.

      Yes def do try both!
I wish Macro did a Choc-orange flavour like Emma & Toms! That is my favourite flavour combination! Each has their own benefit I guess lol

  5. I just tried to make these myself and they are SOOO easy. I mixed in a bowl some pitted dates, hazelnut meal, peppermint oil and dutch processed cocoa until it was a sticky mess then pressed it out like a bar and it tastes the same. And so much cheaper. I'm in heaven, a healthy chocolate bar! Next to buy some orange essence!

  6. I tried both. Couldn't stand the Emma and Tom's ones! But loved the Macro Raw Food Bars. The mint is my favourite. It must definitely be just down to person tastes!

  7. I am addicted to chocolate and it always stops me from losing that extra few kilos when im working hard towards a goal. I have just recently discovered these and LOVE love love them, they absolutely curb my chocolate cravings, along with a small bite size choc protein bar. i can handle a hard bit here and there for the fact that they are soo much better for you than any chocolate product. I still need my real choc fix now and then but these work just fine to stop me wanting that chocoale bar every night.

  8. I discovered these about two or three weeks ago and I love them. However I've become addicted to them and can't stop eating them. I'm talking buying like 6 a day and sometimes eating the whole lot in that day.
